Mitigation

The NetGuard Web Application Firewall uses various techniques to detect and mitigate malicious requests.

How does it work

Configure the protection to meet your specific needs.

  1. Observe traffic

The network traffic is directly incoming into our pre-firewall writen in XDP. In the pre-firewall checks will be performed to be sure that the packet is valid.

  1. Anomaly detection

In the pre-firewall, but also the layers after will check if the packet is good or bad for your website. If bad traffic is detected, the mitigation will start.

  1. Mitigate traffic

All incoming traffic will be strictly checked for any attack. If there is an attack detected in the request, we will block it before it reaches your website.

  1. Learning

The attack would be learned by our systems. In this way will our system detects similar attacks faster. This will result in an even better mitigation next time!

Bot verification

While your website is under attack our WAF can apply three different stages of mitigation to prevent bots from reaching your website.

  • Intelligent challenges

  • User-friendly

  • Highly effective against bots

  • Instant mitigation (< 0.5s)

Dynamic blocklist

NetGuard uses various sources to build a dynamic blocklist that blocks IP addresses in the earliest stage of our mitigation.

  • Infected sources

NetGuard has dedicated servers that finds IP addresses from the (dark)web that are being offered to perform web attacks from. When an IP is found, the IP will be prevented from accessing your website.

  • Self learning

We have a self learning mechanism that will recognize traffic patterns from different sources based on various packet data. These IP addresses will be prevented from accessing your website.

  • Public abuse listing

We use public abuse listing to see if the IP address is known source for sending malicious requests. We combine the abuse data of multiple listings to ensure accuracy and eliminate false positives.

Advanced Threat Protection

Protect your website against exploits, XSS and other attacks by simply clicking a button.

  • Block bad queries and body values

  • Block VPN or proxy IP addresses

  • Set a Content-Security-Policy

  • Configure Http Strict Transport Security

  • Enable CSRF tokens

  • Specify a CORS domain
